A short entertainment indeed, but most enjoyable, and bringing back happy memories. Quite a relief after last week's numerical grind.

Pipped me to the post by minutes, I was just about to post myself. I'm familiar with the work too, although it has to be said that as a matter of taste, I prefer some of the participants' other work.

Nevertheless, a great crossword and one that brought a smile once I saw the final step.
Yes, indeed, after the last few weeks, we were hoping for some light hearted Listener entertainment (haha) and we certainly have it. Lovely, thanks, Ferret!
Wonderful ! Some happy memories and a lot of fun. Thanks Ferret. (Shame it was over so soon.)
Averaging the time spent this week and last, it's been a pretty typical two week stretch of Listeners.
Like the man with his head in the oven and his feet in the fridge!
Does anyone else suspect that the final grid represents numbers in base 24?
I suspected that the professionals would knock this one off quickly if I managed the Friday club. Great fun, thanks Ferret.
Yes, I remember a very early version of this, and wondering whether my reaction to it was the correct one. Thanks, Ferret. And the Magpie has arrived, with a D grade from Ferret...
Alekhine, believe it or not, the (truly horrible) thought did briefly flit across my mind. This was a lovely puzzle. Thanks, Ferret.
Great fun and quite a relief after last weeks numerical nightmare. Thanks ferret.
I am thankful for a quick one after a time consuming one.
As a relative newbie this is the first time I've joined the Friday club. Makes me think it must be on the easier end of the spectrum. Great fun though. Can't say I'd heard of the performance but inevitably it's on you tube if anyone's interested
Ah words, that's what I'm good at. Nice to have the weekend back. Very enjoyable, very elegant. It doesn't always have to be painful...
I appreciates being able to enjoy the upcoming three-day holiday weekend here in the US without a Listener hanging over my head.

I was greatly helped out by Wikipedia and Google autocomplete.
Agree with all comments here though waiting for someone to say it was too easy: most elegantly concise and unambiguous clues, excellent word lengths and a PDM which would bring a smile even to the most Z-ish of Zs....I, too, am a Ferrotophile (see latest Magpie for confirmation of current usage and also for something a tad trickier from the man)...Many thanks.
Late starter but a good one to knock off after a long drive. A puzzle to recommend to those who fight shy of even thinking about doing the Listener.
Just started and looking forward to it, given comments. Lots of very easy big anagrams, by the look of it.
Last week's sounds to have been horrendously difficult (didn't even try it) so I felt that this week's might well be a nice gentle bit of fun. Which it duly was.
Fatal! Busy preparing for an event tomorrow, but glanced at this just to check. One thing led to another and I now have one finished Listener - and a panic to finish things for tomorrow.
Finished. No great challenge but very amusing and nostalgic. YouTube beckons.
