Can anyone please explain 28d Be biblically brutal? 46a must surely be John,,which does not go with 47d which is surely Weill.

46 is a setter's error- the clue should be John - the answer is THAW
28 thump? Bible-thumping?
b28 bash? Bible bashing?
Sorry Fred, this has been discussed a few times over weekend - obviously if you have not seen it then it makes no sense.

Thank you Mamyalynne, that's what I thought it must be but not often the Setters get it wrong!
Unusual but it does happen.
Saturday Telegraph £500 prize crossword

Like many of you, I got out-Herod Herod for 28 down but of course that makes "John" wrong for 47 across - I think the setter meant to say John .... and not .... Thaw as Thaw fits. Anyone agree.
