No clue numbers, this is a carte blanche (I think!). Wordplay in each clue yields an extra letter not to be entered in the grid.

I have come up with 'sexological', but am not sure if I've made this up, and can't see what the extra letter is. Any advice/thoughts welcome.

I have an answer that fits definition, but doesn't fit wordplay - so a hint would be very nice

I'm hopeless at parsing clues - and I'm not exactly sure how this one all works out, but I know my answer's correct. The second word in the answer equals 'vital', and a three-letter word for 'permit' is in roughly the middle of the first word. Sorry if this is rubbish!

Boreas, the 'y' word is just an exclamation - I got it when I got the 3rd letter (from the down word).

Not 'yukky' - just a word expressing astonishment or alarm. The last letter is 's' - this is meant to help, but will probably just give it away. Sorry!

I have the title of the published work and the first four words of the excerpt, but I am struggling to make the rest of it work. I don't yet have all the surplus letters, but those I do have don't seem to fit with the rest of the excerpt.

You don't really need all the words - I've finished, but don't have all the extra letters. The published work and the two unused clues were enough to get what was needed.
