Sorry Cruciformist, I'm not understanding you .
I was just being a bit grumpy suggesting that 9d could only possibly be one word, the 8th letter of the alphabet, H / aitch.
I was also pointing out that the answer to 37d did not fit the letters shown by hunstanton N?C?I as it was nacrE.
