It certainly looks like there's an error in this clue today:

16d Fan had rides in blimps (8) D?E?A?DS

It's fairly obviously DIEHARDS, an anagram of "had rides", so shouldn't the first word in the clue be plural...?

No. The first word FAN is the anagram indicator.

The definition is BLIMPS - Diehards.
