My guess is that they must be pretty relieved that Sir Jimmy's Catholicism wasn't trumpeted at the time:

His confessions may have been interesting.
yes, I bet they wish they'd shut up about it now. Most of the comments on that are a year old, but clearly someone's just spotted it again. (How on earth did you come across it?)
// Savile once described his role at the hospital (Broadmoor) as honorary entertainments officer: “I ask them, what do you want to go round strangling crumpet for?” //

Wrong on so many levels.

I subscribe to a newsletter called 'Popbitch' and they posted the link. It made me laugh, because in the old days, if a newspaper had printed that story, it would've pretty much been forgotten by now - but with the Internet....nothing is forgotten.
C'mon sp there are oversights in everything.
I didn't think Ali's views on separatism were covered all that well in the film...did you?

"A black man should be killed if he's messin' with a white woman."
it's not a matter of an oversight, Mick? For some reason Savile's religion went unmentioned when his obituaries were written. Perhaps this was on oversight on the part of all the obituarists, which would be a huge coincidence; but for whatever reason, William Oddie (is he any relation to the birdwatcher?) got cross and wrote the story and a few other people got cross and added to the blog, and the whole matter was then forgotten.

sp's question is basically whether Oddie might now have changed his mind on whether Savile's religion would be better mentioned or not.

Incidentally, apparently The Oldie ran a story on the allegations against Savile months ago. Where was all the outrage then?
I have not had an email from Popbitch for weeks now
Three Hail Mary's and a couple of quid in the box probably took care of his cofessions - I am not an atheist - but this part of the Catholic religion is not acceptable to me.
How does he know the "conspiracy of silence" he refers to wasn't to protect the church, rather than the result of the supposed hostility he describes? Either way, a sad self-serving article.
The corpse is guilty. He confessed. Roll on the 22nd century.
