I always have trouble getting started when ther are lots of interconnected clues, but 2 which would perhaps help are 5d)8 American dons calling a business bankrupt (4) which I think is bust, but apart from the us in the middle cannot fathom out and 8d) name of river, from the old Latin 'near the ground' (6) which I've no letters in at all. Please help!

Celtic has 'Yellow' right - 'ye' ("the", old) + L(atin) + 'low' (near the ground)

Us Calling business is BT. Yellow?
Does the clue for 5d read "...dons calling business..." - no 'a' ? If so -

Bust - 'US' (American, in) 'BT' (British Telecom - "calling business") (?)

Thankyou

The old = ye. Latin = l. Near the ground. = low
I agree wih Lie-in King's solution for 5d (he's always right). I'm not sure of the reason for the number 8 in the start of the clue though.
