I normally don't like this type of EV, where the lights and clues are not numbered, but the cluing was straightforward and grid entry similar. Except that the clue, "Cat, excited, close to eradicating last of rats." indicates a length of 5 letters, when it should be 6!

Hi DocHH

Actually I quite like the alphabetical puzzles and always think of Araucaria in the Guardian who sets quarterly ones.
As you've said this was pretty easy and leaves the rest of the day for doing something useful!
Hi
Agreed - very easy clues this week. Took a second or two to find the Title, but can now enjoy this beautiful sunshine.
Hi Doc HH!

A nice stroll through this week so more time to enjoy the sunshine. Was goingto point out the wrong answer length but you beat me to it.

In case you and Dr. B. didn't pick up on my final post on last week's EV many thanks for your help to get over the line.
Hello All. Well, that didn't strain the brain did it? I usually like the alphabetical/un-numbered ones (as long as they are not by Mr O of course) but this one was a bit easy to spot.
That done, we'll just have to discuss other matters!
Should have said when I posted earlier, I predict that EV in three weeks time will mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. Just had a couple of glasses of a South African pinotage......very palatable!

Hello everyone,
I thought 6d and were 9d sneaky, but the proximity of the middle 2 letters of the second word to be Highlighted were somewhat of a give-away!
Weather has been glorious here for the past few days. Yesterday morning was spent sitting on a seafront bench doing the crosswords, while waiting for Herself to come out of the Hairdressers. We then spent yesterday afternoon making the front garden look presentable, weeding, thinning out and redistributing snowdrops, etc. Sunday morning is always sacrosanct, both of us sitting doing crosswords and editing for tuesday's recording! This afternoon, have been just relaxing and enjoyng the sunshine. The mowing and hedge cutting season is looming fast. The next target is the back garden, more of a challenge than the front.
Time for a pre-prandial! Still on the Carta Roja to wash down dinner. I'm not sure the proposed £0.40 per unit of alcohol is likely to address the binge drinking culture of our younger generation. Perhaps introducing (diluted?) wine with meals at a young age, as the French do is a better approach?! Or was the £0.40 per unit announced as a means to distract from the Granny Tax! Oliver Pritchet's article on the Granny Tax was greatly amusing! It will certainly feature in this weeks recording!
Hi all, this was indeed a piece of cake. I guess the wrongly numbered clue was just to provide some excitement.

Lots of rain and warm temperatures here mean the weeds are way ahead of the grass this year. Much work on the yard to be done.
I have the Sunday Torygraph delivered every week, just for the EV. There seems to be an editorial lapse every week (two today - Sergeant at 1aw! and the cat one). It's as if they can't be bothered any more. This puzzle was lamentable. I think I may have to get a decent paper delivered instead.
I think it is a bit tough to describe it as lamentable. Easy - certainly. The clues I thougt had pretty good surface reading and the layout meant it took a bit of thought to start the grid fill. Not the best certainly, but OK to have a slightly easier EV given the tough ones so far this year. I agree though that the editing seems to be falling apart.
