Im a bad flyer and am terrified of the plane crashing so would like to take a parachute onboard as my hand luggage or as part of my luggage allowance, Would this cause a problem getting through security, would this be allowed onto the flight? Would this even be viable idea as I heard there are pressure and locks which are there to stop someone opening the plane but would these be relaxed or opened if the plane was going down?

suggest you go and have a lie down, your imagination is running away with you.
don't wear corduroy's because they might rip

My imagination? I've had a fear of flying for a long time now which is very real.
Have you any real advice to give me or just condescending quips?
what size is it? If it won't fit in the overhead locker or under the seat in front you won't get it on the plane
If I were you I'd make a petticoat out of it and hope no-body notices.
Hi carlhobson

Seriously, contact an air line company an direct your Q to them. Let me know.
And another, I see another ban coming up!!
1. Probably.
2. Probably not.
3. Probably not.
4. This would depend on whether it was possible to open the doors as the 'plane is plummeting towards the ground.....
and you would know how to use a parachute if, in anyones imagination, you were allowed to take it on board and the plane was in trouble?
You really dont need to fly.

Prudie i haven't bought one yet in case it's not allowed, if i did it would be the smallest lightest model i could find which hopefully would be allowed.
Point 1:
Modern airliners fly about 7 miles up. Only the world's most experienced sky divers would consider jumping out of an aircraft at that height (and only with an oxygen supply!)

Point 2:
The doors are sealed and can't be opened from the inside while the plane is in the air.

Point 3:
Anyone managing to get outside the aircraft would be quite likely to be sucked into one of the aircraft's engines.

Point 4: Although there's nothing in the general security regulations, which apply at all EU airports, the airline would almost certainly insist that any parachutes were put into the hold.
if you have a fear of flying, you are highly unlikely to chuck yourself out of the plane when it's going down. You wouldn't have time.
I,m sure it would be allowed,if you explain your fears.
To make sure though, ask if you can have an outside seat.
"Have you any real advice to give me or just condescending quips?"

er,it was a rather silly question in the first place...
carl - most airplane crashes occur at take-off or landing.

I guess your parachute would be as useful as an umbrella.
"To make sure though, ask if you can have an outside seat."
with a balcony if you can.

carl, do you really have to take a flight?
I assumed it was the same person who posted about the giant earthworms
and the other questions that have been keeping AB'ers amused. Just opened an account today, so ?
I worked for an ailine for 3 years and the answer is No to all of your questions. If you feel so bad about it DON'T FLY
Cut a slit in the parachute and wear it as a burqa. Not only would you be able to take it onto the plane but it would be ready to use should the need arise.
