Hello EV, N&C WineClubbers,
I was very obedient and followed the instructions! Hopefully you will all also find the result well composed!
We are slurping a Stamford Brook Merlot, eminently quaffable, and at £3.80 a bottle if you buy 6 from Sainsbury's, quite affordable!

Hola doc, this was a pretty straightforward welcome back - so quick that I went back and worked Pub Crawl which took a little more time.

Lots to do after 11 days away & my teaching semester starts tomorrow! Why am I working puzzles? Unclear.

Hello Dr B, probably because it is more stimulating than organising a syllabus!
Very enjoyable offering - thanks Kcit. I am still trying to polish off Pub Crawl having been away on holiday in Greece. Good to have you back drb.
Again, Good Morning All and welcome back Drb. Am still pondering Pub Crawl before starting this week's effort. Have managed to find the verse, not the version I am familiar with, purely by luck and some flights of fancy. Am I correct in thinking line 2 applies to only 2 clues and line 3 to an undefined number of clues? Line 4 I am assuming means the removal of said item which I have tracked down, do I remove and leave spaces? Line 1 I don't understand at all so some hob-nail hints would be gratefully received about it. Nor have I tracked down the name.
Oh yes, please how do I access the books free & otherwise for the Sony ereader Himself bought me for my B/day?!

Hello AndrewG-S and Devadolly, on a bright and sunny Bank Holiday Monday, not a cloud in the sky here.

Devadolly, Pub Crawl, for line 1 look at the left hand column, (first word of line 1 is germane); line 2, 2 out, 1 in; correct with line 3, and yes evict it, the rubric does mention spaces. The author is not in a straight line, looks like a 7(ish).
Actually I think you'll find the left-hand column of the Pub Crawl has one of the 'ins' (or should that be 'inns?) from line 2 - I had two of each. The line 1 adjustment was in the right-hand column.
Hi everybody!

Was able to look at this on the day of publication for the first time for ages. A most enjoyable puzzle with some well disguised misprints but it all came together nicely.
Question Author
Correct on both points Cinnabar! I'd forgotten about that in and got mixed up laterally!
A lovely sunny day down in the IOW with a Sauvignon Blanc for lunch - but on way back to London now :-(
Hi All
Must confess this didn't strike a chord to start with, but blissful moment when the penny dropped and I managed to rattle off the ending in double quick time.
My term starts with two INSETS next week - am helping a my local church holiday club this week just to get back into the swing of things. You can bet that Monday will dawn bright and hot, unlike the weather we've had here in the last couple of months. The leaves are dropping from the trees already!
Can anyone help me with 13a and 6d?
Hi haggis

13a Opera Co = ENO

6d Definition is Caves (misprint O)

Don't want to say too much.
Thanks Kayakamina have now worked out these clues, although I cant justify the headless gain element of 13a. Also cant fully justify my answer for 8d as a railroad is an el not an ell. Do you agree? Also 16a - have the answer but a kind of play?
I am still struggling with completion of the grid as I have only eight letters of the 14. Yet to work out 7d, 13d,17d, 29d, 20a, 40a so I am assuming that these clues contain a misprint.
dd, I think if you go to:

http://www.sony.co.uk/hub/reader-ebook

you will have access to both the free and less-than-free books for the Sony Reader.
Hi again haggis

(b)unce - headless gain.

8d - misprint R(eception)
16a - misprint kinG

Other misprints from your list - 17d, 29d, 20a & 40a

Good luck

K
Thanks for kin(g) - so obvious I could kick myself. Is second word of the message: bar---es
Haggis58 - yes. Ringer's offering gives a good hint.
That's correct haggis - you'll just have to force in the missing letters!
Thanks everyone! Have now cracked it! Can someone please explain the answer to 17d?
run out = ro
of = of
there is a misprint in beads
