but why? why does have to give back the donations?

there are lots of other variations...why not co.uk....? his best bet would be to just use theamywinehousefounfdation.com....or amy.winehousefoundation.com ... thatll let the knobs know their cash has been wasted...to try to cheat a charity is a rotten trick.

i dont understand why this minor hiccup means he has to cancel the whole business....i mean would you cancel all your plans and stop your company forming just because of a domain name?

does he perhaps not want to bother with all the effort now shes gone and this is an excuse?

i suspect theres more to this....

any thoughts

It's not the domains causing the problems, the same bloke registered amywinehousefounfdation at companies house so now the relatives are unable to open a bank account in that name so they can't pay in the cheques they have already received made out to amywinehousefounfdation
"but why? why does have to give back the donations?"

he doesn't. presumably its the mail making a story out of nothing, and reminding everyone (again) that amy winehouse was into drugs and drink.
seriously chuck ? she's only been dead 5 minutes, dad mentions a few hours afterwards that he is setting up a foundation and people just willingly write checks for a company/organisation that doesn't exist ?

I'm always sceptical of people who set up foundations.
Her father made the mistake of announcing the foundation before registering the name of it with companies house, so some freeloader (called Martin McCann) registered the domains and the name with companies house within a couple of hours (for the domain) and the next day (companies house) obviously hoping he could then sell them. loads of people had already heard the announcement with the name in it so started to send donations made out to amywinehousefounfdation and when the father tried to setup a bank account in that name he found he couldn't because he didn't own the rights to the name any more, hence he is having to return the cheques.
Oh and Martin McCann is now refusing to "come to an arrangement" (ie sell) the names to Ami's father until he says sorry for calling him a d1ckhead on twitter.

so you register at companies house under THE amy winehousefoundation, or the official amy winehouse foundation, or even some other variation and ask the people to resend the donations with the new title on it...why cancel it all?
i'm sure he'll be able to reallocate them somehow.

i undertsand why, now shes gone, his reason for doing it is gone, i dont think id want to reminded daily about the nitty gritty of what has killed my daughter...
and pehaps he feels anger at the sorts of people who would use it - like they are somehow to blame...maybe he just cant be bothered...who knows

but hes loaded now though, and amy wanted this done, so he could just pay someone else to sort it all out...

seems like a cop out
imo, he will set up a foundation.
To me the article doesn't say he's giving up on the whole thing?
Judging by the comment at the bootom of the link, he's not giving up setting up a foundation at all. I'm sure he will get the donations back in under whatever the new name is.

that said...if id been through the turmoil he must have suffered with drugs and they took my child away from me i most certainly woudl not want to spend the rest of my days dealing with other people in the same situation and even thinking about it ... i know he wouldnt be there daily but it would be in your mind all the time
You can't just register another name adding "the" to the beginning (go and try and register "the macdonalds" and start a restaurant up in that name and see how far you get) and also do you think the inland revenues bank will only accept cheques for "the inland revenue" or "inland revenue" or do you think they would accept both.

The official AWF (bored of typing it in full:) would work, but you wouldn't be able to pay in cheques made out just to AWF, they would have to be returned and made out again to the correct name.

By all accounts the guy who registered the names sounds like a total tool and I think mitch winehouse in on the level here.
I can understand wanting to wash one's hands of it, but an alternative solution seems fairly obvious. Do it as a differently named foundation, explain on the new website it was necessary, and that previously received cheques had to be ripped up due to some ***. And then carry on from there.
old news:

"Mr Winehouse was speaking outside the Home Office in central London (18 August) where he was meeting government officials where he was urging them to "reallocate" funding for young people dealing with addiction."

i hope so chelle... but to me that article was implying he was giving back donations because he wasnt doing it ...it doesnt say, replacing the donations with correctly titled donations etc...

could be the DM spin...but why not just ask the people to send another cheque?
I would assume because he was still trying to follow up obtaining the foundation name, and doesn't yet have a new name
this quote at the bottom seesm to imply he is continuing?
While it is unclear how the situation will be resolved, Mitch tweeted last night: 'It seems we have got our foundation back. I will update you all tomorrow. Very positive. Mitch.'

Wow, I'm glad I don't have need to write often about someone called Richard.
