On Gardeners World last week Toby Buckland was storing apples in polythene sandwich bags. He put about half a dozen apples in each bag and sealed the top with one of those twisty things and then made several holes in each bag to let the gasses out and then he said to store them in a cool place like a shed or outhouse .He said to check them every so often in case of rot .

When I was young, I lived in a farmhouse with an orchard. We used to collect the apples and put them in a potato crate lined with newspaper and store them outside in one of the barns. They would last for ages like that.

Many thanks - I have wrapped them in newspaper and put them in the garage - above ground, it does not freeze in there - I have so many this year - must be all the water they've had!
