Any general thoughts or ideas about getting fitter this summer?

Getting fitter means different things to different people.

Trying to lose a few pounds?

Trying to join that first gym?

Trying to walk without getting out of breath?

Trying to do a little exercise to help deal with an illness or physical condition?

Trying to overcome that plateau?

Trying to get that ten mile time down to 1hr 40 ?

Trying to find any form of exercise that you can actually cope with?

Trying to secure your place in the first team for next season?

Trying to pluck up the courage to join that running group?

Trying to find some exercises that don't cause too much pain?

Come on, guys ... throw a few thoughts into the melting pot.

Exercise ideas?

Good bits of kit you've found?

New shoes that are working for you?

Dietary supplements?

Motivational music?

Plans for the summer?

Anything!

Questions, answers, thoughts ...

Let's all try to be a bit fitter this summer.

My first random offering ...

Two new CD "running" compilations are on the market.

... Now That's What I Call Running, and

... Ministry Of Sound - Running Trax

The first one (Now ...) is poop ... just a bunch of pop songs with a pair of running shoes on the CD cover. That's not the same as a running CD!

The second one (Ministry ...) is excellent. I bought it at HMV in Churchill Square today (I know, I know ... that shopping centre about which I am so scathing ... yes, I actually went there). It's pumping, and real "get up and go" music.

I'm ignoring the more technical "pace to the beat" stuff that I've posted before. Maybe we can come back to that.

So, come on, guys ... let's be AB FIT this summer.

I've been training for 6 weeks. The first week I had to walk for 1 min, jog for 2min and repeat for 10 minutes. I was completely kn@ckered on the first day, but stuck at it. Now I am running (yes running) for 30 minutes covering about 3 miles. Whoop, whoop. I feel soooo goood!

Eh?
Doesn't one get sweaty, sweety, when doing that sort of thing?
I'm not sure about this.................would I have to leave the sofa?
I scrolled through all that guff up there extra quickly. Does that count as exercise?
Question Author
LOL, MT

shoota ... yep,but sweat is good.

crafty ... no, there are plenty of seated exercises. You have got your legs stretched out, holding a cushion between your feet, yes?
Why should I run when I have a car !

guff is good for you, snags ! ... you just have to lift it up and put it down a few times ... (that's called "reps" LOL)

assuming that your car runs, tony......

I thought it purred.
Question Author
tony ... you don't, as long as you sit and clench your glutes when you're at the traffic lights. Great butt workout.
No I'm clenching at the mo JJ, doing my pelvic floor exercises.
Sometimes it even roars DT. lol
Question Author

You see, guys ... it works!

And then you get that great big endorphin hit ... and you feel SO FANTASTIC!

Are you taking your pet tortoise with you tenrec?
Question Author
"Are you taking your pet tortoise with you tenrec?"

Carrying weights is quite advanced exercise!
Cheeky buzzer Mick!
Question Author
Okay ... for the first serious contribution, I'm clicking tenrec as Best Answer (so far, LOL)
For me it will be starting zumba again when the instructor is ready to start classes after having a baby and trying to work up from that to 3 lots of one hour exercise sessions a week; was doing it last summer and felt great but then had to stop as it was costing too much. I know I could do stuff for free but am always better at sticking to exercise classes than doing my own thing.
