Can any of you tell me who said:

"All guests bring pleasure; some when they come, others when they leave".

Thanks for any replies.

Sounds a bit Oscar Wilde-ish to me
I was going for Oscar too...
Might be Mark Twain, though.
Googled couldn't find it.

I would have a guess at Churchill or Groucho Marx.
I'm not convinced it's an actual attributed quote, but more likely a proverb in the style of "Home is where the heart is"...
an Oscar Wilde one that's very close to the meaning of the above

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go."
- Oscar Wilde
One of my favourites on the subjct of guests:

Tact is the art of making guests feel at home when that's really where you wish they were.
George E. Bergmann
Or the Benjamin Franklyn one:
Guests, like fish, begin to smell after three days.

(A bit harsh there, I think.)
All I can find is a Portuguese proverb which states, "Visits always give pleasure - if not the arrival, the departure."

Thanks for your helpful answers, guys, and just to leave you with this other quote.

"It is the duty of the host to make his guest feel at home; it is the duty of the guest to remember that he is not".

Can anyone tell us the origins of this quote?
LOL ttfn, I like that - I was talking to a friend in Tesco tonight, about answering the door when all you want to do is chill. She would - I wouldn't.
