The theoretical and the practical aspects affect many situations. You can explain how something works 'in theory' - eg by scribbling ideas on paper for someone else to study - but, if they don't understand that approach, you may have to show them how it works 'in practice'.

Take the plug that connects your computer to the power socket in the wall...you might talk to someone who doesn't understand about the three pins, the different colours of the wires and so on, but it might be easier if you just dismantle a plug and show them how it all hangs together. That last approach would be you "explaining it from a practical point of view".

talk to them like they are 5. we explain things to kids much easier than adults.
