Dunno what the origin is but it appears to be a traditional song. Try searching the web using the correct spelling - Lachie McGraw

Thanks rja. I didn't think that that was the correct spelling but my friend assured me that it was. No wonder I couldn't find anything about it when I was doing a search ! Still don't know where the expression comes from and I am wondering if perhaps the answer lies in the song itself - leading to people using it as a reference for similar weddings. It's not just my mother who uses this expression , I have heard many people use it in reference to disasterous weddings and I wasn't aware that there was a song with the same title. Having not heard the song and being unable to pull up the lyrics online , I am no further forward. The most popular information on who recorded the track , seems to be the Corries - who are a bit before my time and to be honest , not exactly my musical preference anyway. Thanks for the help though.
