I have written a letter of thanks to an in law that has given us some money to help us through a sticky patch. I originall signed it yours sincerely but my wife says it's too formal. It doesn't seem right putting 'love' or faithfully and I can't think another correct sounding end. Anyone help?

'Faithfully' is more formal than 'Sincerely'. You only finish with 'Faithfully' if you don't know the recipient..if you do, than 'Sincerely' will suffice.

I would go with 'Kind Regards' or 'Many Thanks'
With our sincere thanks.
Trust Oct to come up with a better one.... ;o)

Thanks everyone, yes Oct wins the day.
I needed something warm but not loving
kind regards is good but still seems a little weak (It was an lot of money)
With our very grateful thanks.
sounds like you got a jolly good amount - why not sign it
thanking you in anticipation ?? (well you never know)
With much appreciation - Regards ........
'You have no idea how your kindness and generosity has helped us.

With deepest gratitude, we remain

Affectionately yours

Flopsy and Mopsy'

As they are inlaws, it is appropriate to apply the term 'affectionate.' Had they been outside the family structure, then 'faithfully' or 'sincerely' would be appropriate.

I commend you in your recognition of the importance of writing. Sadly, many simply wouldn't...or possibly even worse....do so in the form of an email.

Thanks - Flopsy and Mopsy are our Rabbit and Guinea Pig by the way - How did you know?
Hi All

Fr Bill - why not email...?
I don't see the problem with email.

My father in law lent my husband a subastantial amount of money for his business, and as the post was totally unreliable at the time (actually 5 years ago...no postal strike, but heck...) Mr Pippa sent several emails.

Father in law loved the mails expressing gratitude ~ and they have been printed off and kept.
