Ok, this should possibly in the gardening section (!) but can anyone tell this innocent what the difference is, if any, between cannabis, marijuana, hemp, grass?

I thought they were interchangeable terms, but now I'm told not?

Marijuana, is the cannabis sativa plant or may also refer to the THC bearing leaf and bud of the plant often dried and smoked for what some find to be a pleasent physiological affect. Hemp is the fiber of the Marijuana plant and 'grass' in this context is a colloquial term (one of many) for Marijuana; others including any of the aforementioned terms. Marijuana users it seems have almost boundless creativity in this regard?

So is there any difference between marijuana and cannabis?

aaah - just tried your link.

Three stars methinks.
The word marijuana used to be used by everyone in the UK. The word sounds harmless, and is much more pleasant on the ear than the word cannabis, which is rougher and harsher by comparison.
Going back a few years, I noticed a sudden change in police statements reported by the media. They all turned to using the word cannabis instead of marijuana
I'm convinced that the police listened to psychologists who suggested that the use of the harsher-sounding word might help create a different public attitude towards it.
Just tried the link above failed to materialise?

so heres another one

These might help clear things up:

marijuana

cannabis = plant genus
