Back when 192 was in use, me and a few friends used to call them up from 'phoneboxes and say things like:

Us: Can I have the number for the chiropodist, please?
Them: Which area?
Us: ... Well the foot...

Us: Can I have the number for Sainsbury's, please?
Them: Which area?
Us: Euroslough
Them: Where?
Us: Euroslough
Them: Can you spell that, please?
Us: Yes, U-R-A slag.
He he he, back in the mid-seventies my sister's boyfriend and I used to love prank phone calls but our best one ever lasted weeks and weeks and weeks, possibly even months.

There was a little corner shop just one minute's walk from our house which had a public phone just inside the door. The cunningly fiendish (and deceptively simple) prank involved me standing on the toilet seat and peeping out of the toilet window, whilst my mate dialled the number for the public phone. As soon as I saw Mr Singh the shopowner go to answer the phone I would shout "Now" and my mate would hang up.

What a laugh!!! We would do this five or six times in a row then wait for an hour or two before starting again! He used to try anything to get to that phone before we hung up, like casually sauntering around then suddenly diving for the phone, or changing his clothes so we wouldn't know it was him.

One time I watched in a fit of sheer giggles as he came out of the shop looking around whilst actually pulling at his hair. He never once managed to answer the phone before we hung up and I've just been wondering what he would have said to us if he did.

Ha ha, it obviously doesn't take much to amuse small minds, and if you're an ABer Mr Singh, please accept my sincerest apologies for this completely juvenile prank, I hope there's no hard feelings!

We used to have an old receptionist where I worked and we would wind her up all the time she loved it fortunately and it was never too cruel . One famous call she recieved was from BT who said that one of their engineers,Mike Hunt was working there and could she find him and bring him to the phone so she walked round asking "Have you seen ---------------"
Apart from the fantastic Mike Hunt as previously mentioned, and the very silly "Is Mr C. Lyon there" (after giving unwitting prankee the number for London Zoo), we used to have a corny favourite as kids: Me: Is Mr Wall there? You: No, I'm afraid you have the wrong number Me: Is Mrs Wall there? You: No, as I said, you have a wrong number Me: Are ANY Walls there? You: No Me: Well what's holding your roof up? Naaaah!!
