My mum used to say, if i was sat awkwardly that i was " sat there like an Oagie pogie"
What the hell is an Oagie pogie, and are they well known for sitting in a strange manner?

I'm not sure whether your letters 'g' are hard or soft...that is, are they like the 'g' in 'golf' or the 'g' in 'George'? If the latter, it may just be that the words relate to the joinery term 'ogee'. An ogee is a moulding with an s-shaped form, part concave and part convex. Maybe you had adopted such a shape? The 'pogie' part is just a playful addition such as we find in 'higgledy-piggledy' etc.

Ah! In that case, all I can offer is 'hokee-pokee' and 'hokey-cokey', just different spellings of a silly dance's name. That's the one where you "put your left foot in...put your left foot out" etc. In addition, there is 'hokey-pokey' which was a sort of ice-cream or sweet. None of these seem related to your query.
'Hokey-pokey' could also mean the same as 'hocus-pocus' which is a form of cod Latin, being - so some believe, at least - a corruption of 'hic est corpus', part of the Latin mass in the Roman Catholic church.
That's the word used by magicians and conjurors as part of their means of deceiving an audience. Perhaps there's an idea of 'twisting' involved there, so could that be where your contorted...ie twisted...position got its name? I'm only guessing, you understand!
