We are having a bit of a discussion here as to whether or not "Tortoi" is the right word for more than one tortoise or if it is "Tortoises" ??

The plural is tortoise. I know some folk pronounce tortoise as tortus and a lot of words ending in "us" take "i" in the plural so is that why some think the plural ends in "i?"
well i thought so too. i thought that the plural is torti actually.
Sorry, just realised I made a mistake, I meant to say the plural of tortoise is tortoises...
all the plurals of the type Octopi etc can also be of the form Octopuses. Simlarly Stadia and Stadiums are equally valid. The plural of Tortoise is Tortoises.
