I've been a soldier for a long time
Othello, in this scene, is explaining to the senators and gentlemen that he has married Desdemona, which they found offensive. He says he is roughly spoken and - having had little experience of peaceful times - does not know how to use polite phraseology. In the lines you quote, he means: "Ever since the age of seven, until nine months ago, I have used my arms for little more than action in the field of battle."
