The earliest recorded use of the phrase was in a book called God Boy by I Cross published in 1957. By 1966, it had appeared in an ABZ of Scouse and was described as " a woman who puts on airs, has a condescending manner and is regarded as excessively conceited."
(Anyone who is convinced he was using the idea in 1942 should provide any evidence thereof to the scholars at The Oxford English Dictionary.)
