This expression has its original root in a Chinese proverb, but it appears almost universal - North American Indians believe it to be true, and hand down the philosophy in various forms, likewise some Eastern religions proffer a version of the same concept. It would appear that a notion that binds people together with such a sense of faith and optimism has found its way into a wide variety of cultures and religions around the world, although the Chinese can lay claim to the original idea.
