What's this word " emo " I keep seeing bandied about ?It's usually see it applied to music or to someone who is " an emo goth ".

I believe it's short for "emotional", and refers to the angst-riddeen, self-tortured lyrics favoured by those of the goth persuasion.
Someone described my 16 year old son as "well fit and emo". I didn't know whether to be flattered or worried!! It's another world to us 40somethings!!!
It is yet another sub-genre for rock music, and as suggested, it infers music which appeals to hormone-ridden teenagers of a sensitive persyasion.

The Daily Mail - never a paper to let a scare story get in the way of the truth - did a major feature last week inferring that such music inspires suicidal thoughts, but then again, they think women voting frightens the horses, so don't take it to heart.

There is a loose dress clode applied, but like all things tribal, some fans will adhere, some will ignore, and the whole thing will move onto something else shortly.
I hear from my 13 & 17 year olds that it stands for emotional & Spook is the new Goth! A large number seem to have emerged in the last few months in our small Northern Town, I thought they were visitors from another area but they're locals with an emospook makeover!
Emo stands for emotional rock. Like someone who just sits there looking sad all day listening to depressing but quite good music. which brings me on to a joke.
