Hifi speaker stands

when i bought my book shelf speakers, i bought a pair of stands at the same time, the stands came with advice to fill with lead shot or kiln dried silica sand...any body know where to get some from cos i've been looking for ages and still havn't found any

I would imagine that lead shot might be available from outdoor sports shops (fishing and shooting outlets).

Kiln dried silica sand should be available from builders merchants (try larger concerns) or B&Q as it's used for certain types of block paving and pointing jobs.

You may also be able to get it from pottery and ceramic craft type shops. Hope this helps.

normal sand does the job just as well - i filled mine with sand used for kids sand pits - works a treat. check out early learning center or a-like.
There is only one real issue with the sand, corrosion, if you get damp sand off a beach then it will be

a salty

b wet

neither of which will do the steel in the stand any good, but I agree with Mintox, any sand will do.

I you want to use damp sand , then you could always "line" the interior with a bin bag to stop the damp getting at the steel.
