y'know, I hadn't noticed but I think you're onto something. Thrice has basically vanished from the language already. I wonder why?
Can't say I'd noticed that - but I had noticed that frequently these days "yes" has been replaced by "very much so".......GRRRRRR!!!!!!!
Similarly the word dozen seems to have been lost in the ether. We have a youngster at work and when someone asks for a 'dozen' or 'two dozen' you can see she is totally oblivious to how many that is.
Thrice is heard even less often.

Are you talking about multiplication? I always thought it was either English or old-fashioned to say "twice two is four, twice three is six..." Nobody says that in the US.

But we still say "I saw that movie twice" or "You don't have to tell me twice." Also, of course, because they sound pleasant, "twice as nice" and "once burned, twice shy."

Thrice is pretty obscure though.

I've seen it used once or twice quite recently.
i always use twice and on occasion use thrice, but I do tend to get the puzzled look, see "tend" is another word not used enough, god, I feel like my Gran and I'm only 25
I use twice on a regular basis, usually within a sentence similar to:

"For goodness sake, I have already told you twice to put that away, and now I'm telling you again.. blah blah blah!"

hehe. I guess it depends what type of work you are in!!!!
No, it's not dying out. I think that covers it...
It's an American term - I've often noticed them say it on TV programmes. Like a lot of their terminology, it has spread over here.
Another common thing is to use the word "absolutely" instead of "yes".

I really can't say I've noticed the word "twice" declining in usage, although, as has been said, it doesn't seem to be used so often when talking about multiplication.

Yes is the one that I've noticed declining. Windows seems to have replaced the simple yes and no of old with an indifferent OK and Cancel.

Must admit I hadn't noticed a decline in the use of 'twice' but something that really grates is 'these ones' - since when was one plural? and 'these' indicates more than one - or am I just getting old & picky ??

glenis,

I agree. I'm glad someone else has become aware of it. What I have noticed is people saying 'two times' instead of 'twice'. It seems to have increased in the last year or so. The people saying it also say 'awesome' 'whatever' and 'like, wow' alot as well.

I hate the use of the word "of" used wrongly, as in "I`m bored OF it" instead of "I`m bored WITH it" urgh!!!
