hi guys.I'm toying with the idea of getting a sound bar for my TV but have no idea where I would connect it. ( I did say "help for idiots")
I don't have any bluetooth things in the house so I would want a sound bar that would plug into the TV. At the moment all that is connected to my TV is the aeriel an a DVD player.
At the back of my TV there are 2 banks of sockets. Bank one has HDMI 1 in (dv),hdmi 2 (STB), a USB slot and a common interface slot. These technical terms are way above my head.
I use my usb slot ll the time so wouldn't want a sound bar that would use this slot.
The other bank of slots are for jack plugs and consist of 2 for audio,2 for video and one which says PR, i think. Too small to read even with my specs on.
Can you point me in the right direction of what type of sound bar I should be looking for with a budget of around £ 50 to £130. My room is around 16 feet by 12 feet.
Thank you in advance

An 18-month old Samsung TV is definitely going to have a digital optical connection....the recommended way to connect a soundbar.

Looking at a few on Amazon I'd say that it is easy to find ones that are in your price range. One thing I'd like to ask is can you tell us what the specific make/model of your TV is, then it will be far easier to search for suitable soundbars.
Our soundbar uses HDMI input. Apart from on here you could take a trip to PC World and get the cockiest staff in the world to advise you. Some of them at least do know what they're talking about.
Careful, here...cheap soundbars can be awful- worse than the TV that you are trying to improve!
The cheapest that Which? recommends as "Best Value" is the Samsung HW-J250...available in Argos. Easy connection to your TV.

Yes, good to note cheap sound bars are sometimes worse than TV output.
^ especially if you have a good TV.

Can't find my TV details but it is a 36"Samsung,about 18 months old
3.5 mm Headphone connection?
What you want to do is get the sound closer to your head. Having a not-very-good sound bar under the TV doesn’t help much, and if you CAN’T get to grips with WiFi you’ll need longish wires to achieve the result.

We have our TV wired into our hifi system, so the sound comes out either sides of our heads. Our (not cheap) Samsung TV has a typically poor internal speaker.
Zingo if you don't have manual which will have model number, details will be on back of TV

thanks guys. The Samsung model number is UE40H5000AK...type UE40h5000.
What is a Digital Optical connection????
It's a fibre-optic connection, rather than a conventional wire connection.
^^^my Samsung (smart) TV has the optical connection (also about 2 years old) and any decent soundbar/soundbase will have it, too. So, connection is simple...just one thin optical "cable", and the power lead, of course.
....and, thanks for Best answer!
