yeah it's �500 but i'll give you a pony (�25) for it if you want sometimes also called half a bag of sand (ryhyming slang-a grand �1000)
It is �500, and got it's name from the days when India was a part of the Empire. The note form for the currency (not sure if it was pounds, shillings and pence, or rupees) had a monkey on one side of it, hence the nickname "monkey".
