Did you come across this in conversation?  The phrase I know is "You reap what you sow", meaning if you're nice to people, people will be nice to you but if you treat people badly, sooner or later, it'll rebound on you.

The Correct saying is, You reap what you sow.

lit. What seeds you plant will determine what crop you will harvest.

This saying basically applies to a situation where you will get a future benefit if you put in the work before hand.

It also can apply to a situation where a bad situation has occured because of your own poor planning.

I think it comes from the Bible, and goes "as you sew, so shall you reep" i.e. what you give out, you will get back, be that good or bad!

This is the full version from the NIV Bible.- Galations Ch 6 v 7- 10:

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction: the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will come eternal life. Let us not become weary of doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
