...and the film is Casablanca
well we're both half right. Rick (Bogart) says it to Ilse who is played by Ingrid Bergman in the film Casablanca!!!!

Another regularly used Line from Casablanca:

"This could be the start of a wonderful friendship"

and there's another one about a "Hill of Beans"

Ah yes, when Rick says "But I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that. Now, now... Here's looking at you kid."

I'm going to watch it as soon as I get home now, I've gone all nostalgic...

my fav from casablanca is (roughly) "you may not regret it tonight but you''ll regret it tomorrow and for the rest of your life."Bogart to Bacall at the airport trying to persuade her to get on the last outgoing flight.
I thought it was an Americanism, like our 'down the hatch'.  'Here's looking at you' as a way of saying 'cheers' that scriptwriter used in the immortal line said by Rick/Humph in the film.  I didn't think it was created especially for the character to say.  It's something he would have said to a fellow drinker, but just added the word 'kid'

Get your hankies out and go here

sorry, forgot, you will need to scroll down the page
and its not Bacall, its Bergmann!!

And Capitaine Renault's memorable line:

"Major Strasser has been shot"

(Protecting Rick)

"Round up the ususal suspects"...
