BOWMAN
// Bowman provides a tactical voice and data communications system for joint operations across the British Armed Forces in support of land and amphibious operations.

The procurement cost of the supply and (initial) support phase for Bowman is approximately £1.9 billion and the current acquisition cost of the whole project is £2.4 billion. //

iPHONE APP
// An app for the iPhone that uses its camera, compass and GPS coordinates to photograph, map and plot Taliban positions before sending the data to support units, has been developed by a US artillery captain.

Captain Jonathan Springer has invested £20,000 in perfecting the system, called Tactical Nav which can be downloaded from iTunes for £3.49. //

Whooosh!
I would bring them all home now, but then im not the one in charge.
As to helicopters and bullet proof vests, hasn't stopped soldiers being killed has it, nor will mega expensive sat navs, I phone apps or any other tech toy.
"hasn't stopped soldiers being killed has it"

Actually, it probably has.
'some'
The main reason for the cost, is the fact that we have to purchase the system (at very high cost) from our American Allies.........

Similarly, with *any* systems reliant on GPS........we are only allowed a licence (restricted) rather than an out-right purchase.
It would be interesting to know how much is spent in our war against the Taliban, and how much the Taliban spends?
