Hi,

How do I change the name of the owner of a car. My dad is the registered owner at the moment but it needs to be changed into my name. I keep asking my dad and he just says he'll sort it and never does.

Cheers for any responses

get the V5 registration documents then it'll say on that new keeper details you fill them out with your name and then you both sign the declaration you then have to send it off to the dvla and they send u a new one with your details on it. go on the website they'll tell you where to send it.

The V5 only registers the KEEPER of the vehicle and has nothing to do with proving ownership.   The person who paid for it and can show a receipt is the owner.

If you have come into ownership of the vehicle and want it to be registered in your name just send off a letter to DVLA and they'll sort it out.  Either that or you could pick up a few parking tickets and your Dad will still be responsible for paying them.   That should go down well.

 Happy families!!
