Hi Den. I'm good been over to see Mum today, she's fine. How's your Mum?

No. Downton Abbey, it's on ITV at 9pm Sunday. I love it. There was a brilliant line in it last night from Maggie Smith
Me to - I love Downton Abbey - Maggie Smith plays the part of the grandma really well - great actress.

Went to see Mum last Tuesday - was'nt that great - they had the heating on full blast in the home which made the smell of wee horrendous. Mum's new duvet set was missing from her bed - I eventually found it, I think it had been washed but looked like a rag (I like my stuff ironed). I was also told by the nurse she had a fall the Thursday before last an had some bruising. I took her into the loo and had a look - was quite shocked at what I saw.

My Dad turned up to see Mum (I did'nt know he was coming). He was upset as to how worse her dementia had got. I was also unimpressed with the fact my Mum wanted the loo (which I took her) and the only person around was a male chinese care worker. Now if I had'nt been there, was he going to do it. His English was'nt that great.

I have also realised on walking up and down with Mum in the corridor, that her bedroom is the only one without carpet - not sure why - so am going out to buy a big rug to make the room look less like a prison cell.

I have'nt been in yet this week as have had a virus since last Wednesday and feel grotty.

I came out, and sat in the car and cried my eyes out (but waited until my Dad drove away) as I know it would have started him off aswell.

I will never come to terms with any of this Mazie.
den she may not have a carpet if her incontinence is bad xx
be careful what kind of rug you buy because i know from working in nursing homes rugs are really hazordous when it comes to reasons elderly clients fall xxx
Hiya zzxxee - now her water infection has cleared up, she is o.k during the day - but obviously they need to ask her if she wants to go to the loo. I noticed she had a horrible baby type nappy on, held in place by her pants. I think this is easier for them rather than her.

I know what you mean about the rug zzxxee - I have bought a few rugs for Mum's living room at home as she has laminate flooring and also buy ones that lay really flat against the flooring.
you need to talk over all your concerns with the manager also your mum should have a keyworker you can talk to xx
I am keeping an eye on the whole situation, but so far I am not impressed with what I am seeing. My Mum and another lady called Betty are the most able bodied residents on their floor all the others are either in bed or are at a severe stage of dementia, one of which pulled my Mum's glasses off the other week and they were broke beyond repair.
it is very hard adjusting to a loved one being in a care home i do fully understand your concerns xxx
I will never adjust to it, zzxxee .
chin up den xxx
expect early 1900s there was no such thing as a weekend always remember my brother(lives in Canada ) telling me the Americans thought a fortnight was something to with cowboys. ---Love Downton Maggie Smith briliant
Hi mazie I missed most of it.......the daughter rang up wanting a long natter grrrr.
Craft. It is repeated next Sunday afternoon.
or it's on iplayer, I loved that line about the weekend, back then the sevants only got half a day a month off and the working classes got sunday off. that's why so many marriages were on christmas day.
cheers mic (I'll unplug the phone)
I'll inform your daughter that you'll unplug your phone. :-)
As I said on another thread Maggie Smith totally dominated the final scene with her facial expressions alone, even though she didn't have a line to say.
