sometimes when checking the carb content on packets it has an amount an then says 'of which sugars'

what does this mean? and how does it affect the total carb content of the item?

can someone explain how to read this? do i have to add up or takeaway or something?

thanks

All sugars are carbohydrates
Question Author
yes...but how do i read it?...

if it says

carbs - 6g
of which sugars 2g

what does that make the carb content total of the item??
It means that there are 6g of carbs and 2g of them are made up of sugars, the other 4g are some other carbs. The total carb content is 6g.
the only figures you need to take notice of are total carbs, fibre which you can subtract from total carbs and carbs listed as polyols which some say you can take off completely and some say you can take off half They are requires to list sugar separately for those on a low or sugar free diet like diabetics... if you see net carbs the fibre has already been subtracted.... some produucts give a total useable carbs figure that is the one you use in that instance
Blimey rowan, it's very complicated, I think I'll still to calories.
