I am thinking of moving to Florida and want to take my 3 year old boxer with me. I just checked on the Virgin atlantic site and they don't accept pug nosed breeds which i believe mine falls into? Does anyone know if i will be able to take him and what flight company i would have to use? Any help would be greatly apprieciated

We flew ours BA. (weimaraners, not boxers) Do check carefully what facilities there would be for your dog, we went to NJ a few years ago now, turned out that rabies was rife and there was leash law all over the state ie nowhere to let your dog run off the lead except in your own yard...also florida is quite hot for a brachycephalic breed, you will need to be sure your accommodation is suitable.

woofgang, can i ask how much it ended up costing per dog? Just want to know roughly to get an idea. Thanks
It was 19 years ago and all told, it cost us into the hundreds of pounds to ship two dogs, I think maybe 400 but cannot really remember. We did it mostly ourselves, took the dogs to the airport with the crates, they travelled as excess baggage because I was on the flight (DH was in US already). At least now there is the possibility of avoiding quarantine if you return. One of our dogs died while we were over there, the other one did his six months it was horrible. When we went we believed that we would be going to Holland when the job there ended but they closed the dutch office. New Jersey just didn't suit us so we came home.
Er, you do know how hard it is to emigrate to the States don't you? Have a look at this site

You need to get that sorted before sorting out which airline to fly your dog with!

Er, my partner is an American citizen. If i was worried about that i would have posted questions about that rather than dog questions. Luckily im not stupid. Thanks!

You would be surprised how many people post on here and say "I fancy going to live in the USA" as though they could just get on a plane and go and live there.

So it was resonable for spudqueen to ask if you actualy knew who difficult it was.
okay guys dont get into a slagging match just answer the question xx
" my partner is an American citizen"

And? are you married? Will your "relationship" satisfy the INS?

I really hope you have looked at the ins & outs of this "thinking of moving to Florida" properly. As others have already said, I think that how to get your dog there is the least of your problem""
my brother is married to an American citizen, it still took more than 2 years for his visa to be agreed.

good luck
if you book him in as M. Ali.....
Wu - can`t believe how many time-wasters have answered your question (or not as it seems). Only thing I would say is try loads of different airlines because they can vary so much. My cousin brought two bassett hounds back from California (on my flight as it turned out) Was years ago but Pan Am wanted $600 and BA charged $300.
Good luck with the move
Forgot to say - contact BA Cargo.

Thanks to anyone who posted a sensible answer to the question posted. I needed to know if i could take my dog - i didn't want folk jumping on my back about my own situation as that is not what i asked! To those patronising people i have looked into it already. It seems as my partner is a U.S. citizen and we have a daughter, i can get a visa and providing we are married within 3 months i can remain in the U.S. and apply then for a working visa. That is nothing to do with my question about my dog coming over, so lets stick to the question posted guys and give people answers - not stick. Thanks
