Hi - when using the top oven in my hotpoint edc51 I have nearly had an accident with my gloves burning against the element... any ideas? is this a design fault ?

There is no ''top oven'' on this cooker. There is a grill. It's used - a) with the normal oven 'On' and grill 'Off' you can put plates inside the grill compartment to warm them. Use gloves when you remove the such warmed plates, since they mat be quite hot. - b) With the grill 'On', you should always be using the grill pan with its handle attached. You should never reach inside the grill compartment when the grill is switched 'On'.
