snopes is always a good place to check this sort of stuff out

the link was a link to a Trojan horse, but ti's outdated and no longer a threat as long as you have up to date anti virus software

Thanks Chuck ,
>your computer will crash and you will not be able to fix it!

How can anything make your computer crash that you wont be able to fix !!

Anything like that can be fixed, even if it means a reinstall of Windows.

I hope you did not forward it to anyone else !!

No , I forwarded the correct info as I usually do , just wasn't sure this time . However due to the people who don't appear to know about 'bcc ' it would appear it had already been to several dozen before it got to me .
I asked for the correct info to be forwarded , best I can do .

It's theoretically possible to write a virus that would attack and rewrite the firmware of the hard drive via the ide channel and render the hard drive unusable.

The Chernobyl virus rewrote parts of some BIOS chips which effectively rendered the computer unusable and the BIOS chip had to be replaced.

So although rare and really not a great danger it is possible to damage a PC with a virus to the point that reinstalling windows would not be possible for the average lay-person.
