Given that the English originated somewhere in northern Germnany / southern Denmark, I'd hazard a guess at their first colony being somewhere like modern day Essex, where archaeological excavations have uncovered Roman-period Germanic settlements. Around 400 AD.
They also uncovered a Burberry cap dated 400 AD from the same Essex excavation.
