Cat + Electric Blanket = Bad Idea???

Just bought a new electric blanket and, as HC sleeps on the bed with me, is there any danger involved?

He's never ever peed on the bed, or anywhere other than his tray or outside but just checking out of caution if anyone else has had a problem...apart from the fact he will probably never get him off my bed after this :)

We have an electric blanket, and before Cleo arrived, the cats would sleep in the bed with us, and now Cleo sleeps in the bed with us, and fingers crossed, no problems yet!
However had never really thought about it before, but I am now likely to go into over worry mode lol!
hiya, you dont have it switched on whilst asleep tho do you?

if youre just warming the bed, keep him out whilst its switched on, is it an over-blanket?
dont think so jen,my wee girl gets on the bed with me,todays lecky blankets are really insulated, you can wash them in your machine check details first!!!
Ohhhhh, I do weeal, mine is always on pretty much!
Has a funny thing that switches it off if it shorts or anything, so mine is on pretty much 24/7!
:-(
My dog sleeps IN the bed (yes I know, hygiene blah blah blah...) with the blanket on, and it's not fried her yet! Can't see any problems jen :-)
arghhh, i cant get into a hot bed lol

I only got it today :)

I thought I'd try it ronight and see how I go. Put it on top of the memory foam topper and under me and the duvet.

HC sleeps on top of the duvet so should hopefully be safe!
Oh, I love getting into a nice warm bed!
Also have the ceiling fan on though so it is cold outside, and then just jump into the nice warm snug bed!

No wonder our leccy bill is 195 a month thinking about it!!

Aww Boo, bless :)

One of the first things my mum said was, "make sure you don't let him anywhere near the bed" but I'm too much of a softie.

When my ex bought a puppy, he used to sleep in the bed with us :)
They are great jen!

We were lucky with ours, got it cheap in Currys for 25 when should of been 70!

Has 2 seperate sides that each have their own controls, so while I cook away, my fella doesnt even have his switched on :-)
Well Jen.. if you are safe sleeping in a bed with an electric blanket then I suspect that young master HC will also be safe!

Ooh! Mine's a cheap Argos Dreamworks one.

Now I am happily single, I can wrap the whole thing around..MEEEE!!! :)
Jen, I hope you didn't buy one of the electric blankets which can stay on all night. I don't think they are very safe for humans, never mind cats, as they have been known to fail and burn with the occupant still in bed. With the normal kind which you switch off before you get into bed, I wouldn't think there would be a problem. If you switch it on for a while before you are ready for bed to get nice and warm, (with the bedroom door firmly shut), to keep you-know-who out. When you are ready for bed, switch off, jump in, and you and Heathcliffe should stay warm as toast all night.

Thanks puddicat :) think I'll do the same!

That's a good point Schutzengel.

I got this one...

The monkey is currently after my crisps and trying to sit on the laptop!!!

Got him a new scratching post today though so he has a new toy.
Hi Jen,
Just had a look at the link. It certainly looks to be a good one, with lots of safety features. I'm pleased to see you got a double, half for you, and half for Heathcliffe, but I doubt very much if he'll stay in his own half :-). Schutz
Frankie usually ignores me when I am using the laptop in the bedroom, but whilst I was reading your post he was almost wrapping himself around the screen.

I thought about getting an electric blanket but wasn't sure if I would ever get near the bed again. Two cats can take up one hell of a room.

I hope that HC is looking forward to Santa Kittie coming.
