People in general like company .Humans it would seem thrive in communities and it seems to be a natural thing for them to congregate in places to socialise together.
Yet strangely when you ask folk where they'd like to be if they could escape they invariably come up with a long sandy beach thats unspoilt and deserted or a tropical paradise island with total peace .

Do you think if you had to stay there all the time though that you'd soon get sick of the peace and tranquility and the natural urge to be among other people would make you want to return to civilisation ?

is there a decent takeaway near this long sandy beach thats unspoilt and deserted ?
I don;t think that is strange at all, it is the norm for people to want peace and tranquility, that's why we go on holiday.
Ditto with Dot.

Yes dot , youre proving my point though. After a holiday folk generally return .

So seems tranquility is only good enough in small dosesw.

Humans dont like solitude and tranquility in the majority.Yes there have always been hermits or loners. But in general its not the norm to want totyal solitude.
Exactly why solitary confinement is seen as punishment in prisons even till this day .
It proves that people work hard and take the holiday they choose, but some people go to las vegas on holiday not antigua.
Question Author
Well vegas is hardly tranquility is it

lmao

as i said if it wasnt a discomfort it wouldnt be used as a punishment would it ?

ciao x
Been to Las Vegas for 4 days on a fly/drive holiday. It was an amazing place, but far from peaceful - too many one armed bandits for starters - noisy things! Having said that, the helicopter trip over the Grand Canyon was even more amazing & very peaceful after landing. It was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop!
I could quite happily stay away from 'civilisation' for months - as long as I had loads & loads of books to read, pen & paper and some access to music.

I supose I'd get a yearning at some stage to be back amongst people, but I think ideally I would do it on a '2 month on, 2 month off' basis. Nice idea.
Same here salla - plenty of pens, paper, mag's for crosswords & my mp3 player (if I could find a charger on a dessert island that is)! Oh, & a lantern!

I'd miss my family though!
*desert island!
Loneliness is not very nice, and I think most people after a few days would have gone barking mad....and even started talking to themselves.

Sounds a bit like some of the users on here....

:-)
Much as I've often fantasized about being on a desert island, I know I would eventually go mad and start talking to a football called Wilson.
I wouldn't last 5 minutes.

I hate being alone. If I go away, I have to go with friends. Even when I have been "paired up" I still prefer to go away with other couples.

I hate nights in on my own, and I hate the prospect of a Friday night with nowhere to go.

So in answer to the question ...

... Yes, I would soon get sick of the Peace and Tranquility.

Just the words "Peace" and "Tranquility" fill me with dread.

I'd also miss all the kisses & cuddles our grandkids give me! You're the best Nanny in the whole wide world & I love you to the moon & infinity! Ah!
I used to hate being on my own...it would quite literally send me into a panic. But since I have been on my own I have become a stronger person...and discovered that my own company is not a bad thing. Needless to say...being 'alone' is not the same as being 'lonely'.....which can happen even when surrounded by throngs of people.
We are all different in the amount of company we need or crave......the ideal for me would be that beach..with a thriving small community a mile or so away!!!
Much depends on age and one's lifestyle.

Tis lovely to know you can determine time 'for yourself'.

Am needed pm (better move) but since Sunday 'unrequired' so have made myself 3 new outfits which I can't wait to show off down my high street.......1 has already had rave reviews?
Oh, I didn;t think you meant total isolation with no other people on the desert island whatsoever. In that case - maybe the 2 month thing would be a bit much. Could I have a mobile please?
I don't know why you should moan, jayne, you have always got the peace and tranquility of Hove beach, without being more than two minutes from civilisation. :-)
I've led a very busy life & worked with others for many years (even tho' I had an office of my own).

I love having family & friends around me, but also enjoy 'me time' with peace & tranquility - it gives me time to think & is good for my brain! I think there's still one there!
Hove beach, Logic ?

I'm not allowed on there. I'm way below the minimum age limit, I don't have a blue rinse, and I don't own a beige anorak.

I'm only allowed into Hove at all with a temporary Visa from the Geriatric Embassy of Hove. Even then, I have to lie about my age and add on 30 years.
