Have been told that the air quality where I live is good because it's 3000 feet above sea level - how can I calculate this? Searched various websites without success. Any ideas??

Calculate what? Height above sea level or air quality?
I was just going to ask the same.
IF you want to know how high above sea level you live install Google Earth and find your place. It shows on the bottom somewhere how high above SL you are.
I would say the opposite is true. As we know the oxygen layer gets thinner the higher we go. Oxygen is needed for our brain cells and without it they die.

Many thanks to all of you who posted answers/comments to my question. Feel very silly as, it appears, I was misled and this measurement/statement was obviously inaccurate. Believe it or not, the person who quoted this information to me was, in fact, the estate agent that I used to purchase my current house!! Think I'll have a little chat with her!! In the meantime, will download 'Google Earth' as suggested and have a browse!! If I find anything exciting, I'll let you know. Again, thank you all. With kind regards, ellearem, x.
