My son was sitting his AS PE Exam in a hall full of pupils doing GCSE English exam, his paper was 45 minutes longer than theirs and when theirs finished they all got up started messing about shouting and carrying on while he was still trying to concentrate on his paper. He then couldn't concentrate and feels he has totally failed that paper (it was the second of two done back to back- he felt really confident about the first one), I emailed the school to complain and they basically said ' we're sorry we now realise that we shouldn't have put the AS pupils in with the GCSE pupils and we won;t do it again' Can we do anything about it? WHo do we contact? TIA

This shouldn't have happened and wasn't fair on your son. However I can't see the few minutes' distraction making teh difference between the good grade he wants and his having 'totally failed'.
But what was he doing in the period between the start of all the exams & the end of the other exam?

Until the results come back you won't really be able to do anything but contact the Department of Education (now known as the DCSF or these guys once the grades are in:

Have a chat with the school exam secretary about your options, if any.

I remember our GSCE Spanish listening exam being scheduled in a room above the college orchestra rehearsal.

We had to stop part way through and wait for another room to be found and ended up doing it in a science lab.

We didn't get any special consideration though can't remember any being asked for, was back in 1996 mind.
