I've bought a gorgeous little black and white hamster today and we have decided to call him Derek! We also considered the names Harold and Trevor (my little man could only say feather though) lol . I think Derek suits him

If you bought a hamster, what would you call it? I'm open minded if i see a better name than Derek!

How about Henry the Hamster or Samuel?

I had a black fish which we called Winston!
Hi Jules,

If I got a hamster it wouldn't survive long enough with my 2 around! I'd call it Kevin though. Lol x
Hi unruly, congratulations on your purchase! :) I'd call him Harold or George I think. Or perhaps Arthur.
I like Derek, a great name for a hamster
Question Author
lol good name muchlovex nice to see you btw.

We also got a fish today and he is called Burt! :-)
PS - I meant that as in if I had a Hamster I'd call him the names i put, I wasn't bossily suggesting you should call your hamster that. As soon as I submitted I eeked and thought it looked a bit rude sorry! :)
if you get a female you could call her Mavis now !
Question Author
lol Beads, never even crossed my mind!

I like the idea of kevin but thats more of a name for a gerbil isnt it?

I got him really as a little interest for my little fella, something he can help, lol, look after with me. Teach him how to be gentle and kind to animals.

hi dot, i didnt want a female cause they can be a bit nasty apparently! This little guy is cool, made sure i picked one that didnt munch on my fingertip! :-)
I would say Burt the fish and Winston the hamster as a great combo'
My mate is going to get a Bengal cat and call it Kevin. Lol. I don't think it matters what the animal is really as long as you and your little one like the name you've both chosen.
unruly - some good ideas for names were given here yesterday

ive always been a bit rubbish at choosing animal names though tigger, then i hear other peoples and think how great they are and how boring mine are.
Question Author
lol sir.prize, i never really venture into animals and nature. I shall take a look through and see if anything catches my eye but i'm really liking Derek! thanks

I'm the same Jules. My cats were already called Tigger an Blue when I got them from Battersea Dogs & Cats home. I liked the names and didn't want to confuse them with new ones. Rhubarb & Custard would have just confused them! Lol lol

before i seen your thread i had a gu d laugh at it

lol monty!

invisible, no i didnt handle it but the chap in the shop did and it was fine, he had picked up another one i wanted and it looked grumpy as hell so back in it went. I have had two nasty ones and one lovely one, luck of the draw i reckon. Always a good idea to handle them as much as you can as soon as you can.
Im so sorry you lost yours, thats sad.
I have a rat called Geoff, I love human names for animals, so much better than fluffy or snowy. Lame lame lame.
