55a. Offenders - end (death) in offers (volunteers)
47d. Dossed?
or Bossed ..... 0 + ss in bed
Your answer is better structured Kettledrum. Perhaps ".......IN retirement" would have been more correct, but of course you are right . My answer was merely a play on words!
I realised what you were doing Mike! but all the same it helped me to see the right answer, so thanks for that. It's always possible - when typing out so many clues - that Toby may have typed 'on' instead of 'in', but regardless of the accuracy of the clue, I'm sure 'bossed' is the right answer!

Having struggled to get answers on here all evening, I'd rather given up on explanations, but the site seems to be operating rather better in the last half hour or so.
May I call you kd? Toby's copy was good, but nonetheless.....

I've had problems trying to use the site also. It does wobble a bit from time to time. Annoying for people like you who are such sharp solvers! But where would we be......

14a. Dwarves?

Pleased to meet you. Mike

Oh yes! I like dwarves! Well done!
can you help with 31 d or 26 acr?
Meabby - innocent has crossed my mind, but I can't quite work it out:
