I'm a soprano singer & am thinking about starting up as a singer for weddings/funerals etc. I don't really know if this would be popular as I think most people would prefer a string quartet or something. If I could find a piano accompanist, how would I go about starting? Also, do you think it would be worth it? Or do you think most people wouldn't want just one singer? Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated :-) Thank you

Flipping 'eck - what kind of weddings do you go to if they have string quartets?

Seriously, I would start by placing adverts in bridal magazines or by telling everyone you know what you intend to do (who will then hopefully tell every on one that they know!)
To be honest with you I DJ at a fair few weddings and speaking from personal experience unless you really hit the top end of the market I think you will struggle. I've seen people book a DJ and a band and the band always struggle as while they can do requests if someone asks them for the latest song by the Sugababes or Abba you're going to struggle. This invariably leads to people being bored and wandering off, however, if you advertised in Tatler thats a different proposition!
I had a singer at my wedding - she sang Ave Maria as I walked into the Church. There wasn't a dry eye in the house!!

Depending on what people want, it is a good idea. Weddings are getting less traditional and more personal.

Not sure about singing at funerals though!!

Good luck
