Work gaps

I have been out of work for about two and a half months now. I work in graphic design and just haven't been able to find anything at all. I have been told that it could be just a bad time of year for looking for jobs.

Before I found my last job (from which I was made redundant) I was looking for about ten months but when I went for interviews no-one really questioned me on that. I do a lot of personal work and am involved in projects so I always bring that up in interviews. I have joined a design agency and even they aren't finding anything at the moment.

Anyway all I want to know really is what length of work gaps are considered bad on cvs.

Also if anyone has any suggestions on design based job sites it would be great.

Thanks in advance.

you should include ALL work on CVs not just "proper jobs".

fill the gaps with info on these smaller personal jobs, such as "designed brochure for 'the thingummydoodah company"
and "responsibe for the visual reworking of the marketing literature for "the flibbertygibbert association"

or even more personal stuff like "assisted my husband/wife on producing menus for their new restaurant"
- you don't have to mention family though - you could just put the name of the restaurant.

it is all professional work, whether you did it as a favour or just worked for a pal

you can also use an opportunity like this to give yourself a good title such as designer, art director etc etc

i dont think there is ever a good time in the year t get a job. this time of year you may be able to get a temperary job i.e. christmas temp. but if you are worried about being out of work for so long just get a job in something else i.e. retail just to see you til you get that dream job. i have always been told its easier to get a job if you have one. i dont know if that true to all but it aont done me know harm.....good luck.....
