Depends if you mean films of all types and eras or just modern films.

There are loads of 100 best movies if you search the web.

Here is one:

Can I suggest Citizen Kane which is considered by many critics to be the "best" film ever made.

Read up about it before you watch so you find out what is so special about it.

It was Orson Welles first film and he helped write it, directed it, and also starred in it. And he was only 25 years old.

Even if you do not like it (and you may watch many you dont like) you still have to watch it to call yourself a film buff.
Monty Pythons - The Life of Brian

Betty Blue

Withnail and I

Millions of others, just depends on taste.

Citizen Kane was another one I'd forgotten about. I dont have access to shops where i can buy movies but I'm keeping an eye for stuff.

I have a very open mind and I'll watch anything, seen all the monty python stuff, didnt like withnail an I. But python stuff's great as long as you dont watch it with males who quote every line just before it's said!

thanks!
Battle Royale - Japanese film, subtitled though, but its so original and its excellent. Never heard of anyone who thought it wasn't cool.

You should be able to borrow it from any city libraries... definatley worth the trouble.

You will not be disappointed with the notebook, its amazing.
crash or hotel rwanda have to be the best films i have seen this year.
Might I suggest:

Tokyo Story
Rear Window
Dr Strangelove
Day For Night
The Hill
Jaws
The Taking Of Pelham 123
A Short Film About Killing
Mystic River
The Sixth Sense

I loved the Pythons on TV but the films are greatly overrated especially Brian and you're right about it being very male and kind of nerdy. Try to see the original cut of Apocalypse Now rather than the indulgent, overlong "redux" version. I don't think I know The Notebook, what is it?

Some of these may be a little bit hard to get hold of, but are worth it:
The Virgin Spring
The Long Day Closes
Heart Of Glass
The Spiral Staircase (1946)
The Miracle Worker
Fanny And Alexander (full 5hr version!)
The Haunting (1963)
The Company Of Wolves
I love the way you snuck Canibal Holocaust in there. That was the supposed snuff one wasnt it...saw it years ago ..looked very real to me.

I agree with cannibal holocaust it is great. I would also recommend Man bites dog. It is a foreign film with subtitles but is really very surreal!
