Why are Majorca and Minorca sometimes spelt Mallorca and Menorca?

HEREThis is how you say it (:-)
The LL in Spanish is pronounced Y. Mallorca (the Spanish spelling) is pronoinced MAYORCA. The English had a presence in the area many years ago and decided that a foreign word with a Y sound must be spelt with a J.

Because thats how they are called!!!!
