Is it physically possible for you to stand behind your mother, and for your mother to stand behind you at the same time?

Maybe in a mirror? If you accept that 'behind you' doesn't always mean the same as 'at the back of you'? I'll try and explain! If you were stood behind (at the back of) your mother facing away from the mirror, then in the reflection although you'd both be facing away, you would be seen first so it could be said that your mother was standing behind you. I think!
